English is the study of texts (novels, poems films, advertisements, gestures, plays, multimedia and any other forms of communication between individuals and groups). This enables students to use, understand, appreciate, reflect on and enjoy the English language in a variety of texts and to shape meaning in ways that are imaginative, interpretative, critical and powerful in their own writing. The English Faculty is stable and has highly qualified and experienced teachers, who bring commitment and enthusiasm to their teaching. We offer a wide range of experiences to our students, focussing on the language modes of reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing and representing. Our teaching practice demonstrates the essential elements of the NSW Quality Teaching Framework, with the emphasis on improved student outcomes. We offer the full range of English courses, up to and including Extension 2 English for the HSC. We differentiate the curriculum, offering an extended and accelerated course of studies for our Gifted and Talented students in the junior school, as well as support for students experiencing difficulties in literacy. The English faculty consistently achieves good results in the School Certificate and the HSC. We are particularly pleased with the value we add to our students’ outcomes.
